Rhodesian Ridgeback (Ro de jein)
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is named for the unique strip of hair growing forward along their backs. They are also referred to as the African
Lion Dog. As Europeans migrated to South Africa, the Boer farmers/settler found that they needed a hound to flush partridge, pull down a
wounded buck and guard the farm. Later big game hunters used them for hunting lions and leopards from horseback.
We purchased one of our Rhodesians from Missouri and the other from Altus, Arkansas. If you have ever watched The Simple Life starring Paris
Hilton and Nicole Simpson you may recall that this is the town where they stayed.
Our dogs are very friendly and affectionate. Although they are athletically built, they are not hyper or aggressive. They are super nice
dogs. The male is very large and looks intimidating, but he would not harm a fly.
